About Me

Hi!

I am an author and English teacher from Bloomfield, New Mexico. It sounds lovely. Blooms and fields. But it was none of that. If you have ever been to a small town in New Mexico, you understand that it is rough living. "New Mexico: The Land of Enchantment" or as we all said growing up "New Mexico: The Land of Entrapment". As I have gotten older, I realized, however, that this place, my home, gave me everything that I love about myself and this world.

It is where I graduated high school, inspired deeply by the teachers who cared so much. I learned that reading and writing is not doing well on a test. That reading is actually learning we all feel like we are not enough sometimes (The House on Mango Street). Or that sometimes, the monster inside us is not real (Frankenstein). And sometimes, reading is deciding to stand up for what we believe in (Animal Farm). The orange sun shines brightly on those who care.

It is where I discovered my love for creativity and art. I graduated from New Mexico State University with a degree in Scenic Design/ Theatre Arts. Here, I learned that dedication and hard work are buried deep within the desert soil. It is past the dust and sandstone. Your hands can claw through anything.

It is also where I found that everyone has a story to tell. I graduated from Eastern State New Mexico with a master's in education. I took that knowledge back to the children that were just like me. The people that believed the world around them did not care about them.

But New Mexico taught me that the world did care. We just need to care first.
